How is Vibha different from or similar to other Non Profit Organizations?

The problem of underprivileged children in India is pretty significant which is why there is a need for so many different organizations. Each organization is doing the right thing in their own way. Most of the times what differentiates one organization from another, is the focus areas and/or the philosophies of the organizations. For example, Vibha believes that to address the issue of underprivileged children in India, we need to collectively take action and that every individual can make a difference no matter how small the contribution. We are also committed to being a volunteer movement and are constantly striving to make sure that our overhead costs are limited. Our project selection philosophies are also different in that we try to solely address the issue of child development in a comprehensive manner and focus on various aspects like education, healthcare, vocational training and policy and advocacy efforts.

I have been approached by many India focused NPOs, why doesn't Vibha get together with all the other India focused NPOs and come together with one name and one voice?

It is definitely an option but many times, there are differences in basic philosophies that might make this difficult. For example, Vibha believes in supporting small to medium scale organizations that have an impact on the immediate community in which they operate, so that at some point in time the community itself takes responsibility of its children. Another big difference is that Vibha takes a holistic view on child development including education, health care, shelter, child rights movement, advocacy, etc. and does not necessarily focus on any one area alone.

Another reason to avoid big umbrella type organization is to prevent any potential bureaucracy and inefficiencies that might creep in when you are trying to organize that many different organizations and approaches. To maximize the effect of each contribution, it is important for each organization to maintain its own focus.

While all these organizations are generating awareness and funds for the cause in their own ways, what is most important is to work collectively at the grassroots level. Vibha is committed to partner with any of these like-minded organizations at the grassroots level.
